Pool Cleaners and Sweeps

This type of cleaner operates off of a booster pump.  The booster pump draws water from the pool return line, increases its pressure and pumps it to the poolsweep line.

This type of cleaner operates off of the return pressure of the pool system.  We recommend putting a three way valve on the discharge side of the pump and splitting the pressure between the filter and the poolsweep.  This requires an energy filter on the poolsweep line.

A suction side cleaner operates off of the suction created by the pool pump.  It sucks up the debris from the bottom and deposits it in the skimmer or a pump trap.  These are a little more finicky in their operation than the pressure side (option 1) above.

There are some self-contained low voltage automatic pool cleaners that are not plumbed into the pool system and they are not for continuous duty.  They move around the pool randomly and stir up debris.  After the pool is cleaned, it is recommended that the cleaner be removed from the pool and stored in a safe dry place.

These are systems that have pop-up heads built into the floor of the pool.  The heads pop up at timed intervals and spray water out across the floor of the pool to stir up debris and force it to the drain.  These must be installed when the pool is built and are limited in their effectiveness.
