ChlorEase Saltwater Chlorinator For Above-Ground Pools uses the same
saltwater chlorination technology as all other salt chlorine generators in
the market. Chlorine is produced on-site by the electrolytic breakdown of salt
in the water. The ChlorEase unit is submerged in the pool water rather than
plumbed in-line with the filtration system and is designed for above-ground
pools only. ChlorEase saltwater chlorinator is a stand-alone sanitizing system
that attaches conveniently beneath the top rail of both new and existing
pools, and hangs down along the inner pool wall. It plugs into any 110 Volt
GFI protected outlet.
Installation:
- Remove top ledge of the pool where ChlorEase will be installed (near a
120vac GFCI socket) by removing screws and caps. Installation near the
return line is recommended to maximize circulation of the chlorine being
produced. Note that the unit cannot be plugged into a circuit that is on
a timer! This unit must have electrical supply 24hrs a day 7 days a week. DO
NOT PLUG IN YET!
- Estimate how much cord will be needed to reach the power source. If
desired, the extra cord can be wound up in the unit —
watch the video.
a) Open the cover by removing the screws at the top of the face plate,
using the tool provided.
b) Remove the spool and pull about 1/2 the amount of cord you want to wind
(between 6-18") through the top of the unit. This portion of the cord will
wind up around the spool as more cord is pulled in.
c) Replace the spool and lay the cord coming from the top opening of the
unit down the middle of the spool.
d) Twist the spool clockwise to wind the cord.
e) If there is too much leftover cord in the unit after winding, you've
pulled too much through the top in Step B. Start over but don't pull as
much lead cord through the opening.
f) Once the cord is wound, replace the face plate and fasten the screws.
- Slide ChlorEase onto the pool wall, preferably positioned in the middle
of the top ledge, then tighten screws on the back of mounting bracket to
secure it against the top of pool wall.
- Simple grounding of your pool is recommended to further minimize the
risk of corrosion to metal pool parts. This can be done using a metal stake
in the ground and a wire attached to the ground wire screw provided on the
metal bracket.
- Replace the top rail and all hardware.
- Follow instructions for Startup below
Startup and Spring Opening:
- Adjust the water chemistry to the proper levels. See
water chemistry levels.
- Turn on filter and add the appropriate amount of salt to the pool water
to achieve a level of 3600-4000 ppm.
See salt table. DO NOT OPERATE CHLORINATOR IF SALT LEVEL IS BELOW 2500
PPM.
- Use a brush to dissolve and disperse the salt throughout the pool.
- Add the appropriate amount of stabilizer to minimize chlorine
deterioration from the sun.
See stabilizer chart.
- Shock treat the pool with a saltwater-compatible chlorinating product to
initialize the chlorine residual as ChlorEase begins to generate chlorine.
ChlorEase will then maintain the 1-3 ppm chlorine level thereafter.
- Plug ChlorEase into 120vac GFCI socket. Place transformer in a protected
area at least 3 feet from the pool. Bubbles should rise from submerged cell.
Initially for the first few days, a soft milky cloud may appear around the
ChlorEase unit. This is normal and a good indicator that the unit is working
properly.
Maintenance:
The ChlorEase system will automate the daily sanitization of your pool, but it
is very important that you continue your routine maintenance (water balance,
shocking, etc.). For proper pool care
click here. Test the salt levels regularly with saline test strips
available at your local pool store. Periodic cleaning of the cell to remove
calcium buildup is also required (every 2-3 months in soft water areas and
monthly in hard water areas).
Cleaning the Cell:
- Unplug the ChlorEase unit.
- Remove the ChlorEase housing from the pool by
squeezing the retaining clips with the plastic tool provided to unlock the
housing from the metal bracket
-
Grasp the housing and pull down to remove it
from the bracket.
-
Unscrew the 2 plastic screws on the front
cover with the plastic key provided.
-
Squeeze the side clips to remove the front
cover.
-
Remove the wire spool and unwind the excess
cord so the housing can be hung over the edge of the pool.
-
Unsnap the cell from the housing and place in
a container of mildly acid solution for 45 minutes.
Hose off with water and inspect the cell. If
scale remains, change the cleaning solution and repeat the process
- Reinstall cell when all the scale is
removed.
Winterizing:
It is preferable to remove the entire ChlorEase system for winter. Simply
reverse the installation procedure and store the system in a shed or garage.
ALWAYS CLEAN THE CELL BEFORE WINTER. If you do not remove the entire ChlorEase
system for winterization, the ChlorEase housing and cell must be removed from
the pool. The unit will be damaged if left in freezing water and should be
removed by following the instructions for cleaning the cell (see Maintenance
section above). Use twine or wire ties to attach the housing and cell securely
to the cable that holds the cover onto the pool. Secure it in a way that the
housing and cell will not swing around in the wind and cause damage.
