ZeoFiber is Environmentally Safe ZeoFiber is a pure white cellulose fiber produced from wood fiber. ZeoFiber is a renewable resource that is a 100% biodegradable “GREEN” filtration media. ZeoFiber is a perfect replacement for diatomaceous earth (D.E.). For pool owners with sand and cartridge filters, the addition of ZeoFiber will give your pool water a more polished look and will remove oils not ordinarily filtered out by other filter media.

When used correctly, ZeoFiber can trap the smallest particles, giving an even better filtration capacity than D.E. Regular use extends the filter cycle between backwashing while filtering out more and smaller particles from the water. ZeoFiber contains no silica or other potentially harmful substances, is completely biodegradable, and is easy to store and use. Just a little over 1 pound of ZeoFiber can be used in the place of 5 pounds of D.E. to recharge a 48 square foot DE filter. It is NSF/ANSI-50 Approved.

    Use ZeoFiber for Filtration In:
  • Private Swimming Pools
  • Commercial Swimming Pools
  • Sand and Cartridge Filters as a Filter Aid
  • NSF/ANSI-50 Approved for use in all D.E. Filters

ZeoFiber by ZEO, non-toxic and biodegradable cellulose fiber. NSF/ANSI-50 Approved.

ZeoFiber is Safe and Natural
ZeoFiber is a blend of natural cellulose fibers that replaces diatomaceous earth in pool and spa filters. In D.E. filters, ZeoFiber replaces the D.E. and safely cleans pool water. In cartridge and sand filters, ZeoFiber works as a filter aid and improves water clarity.

  • Safe and Natural
  • Biodegradable
  • Finer Filtration
  • Longer Filter Cycles
  • Easy to Use
  • Economical

Finer Filtration with ZeoFiber
In the filter, the cellulose fibers in ZeoFiber nest together to form a highly uniform filter coating that traps the smallest of particles. The resulting filtration is higher than that of D.E. giving you cleaner, clearer water.

Longer Filter Cycles
Since ZeoFiber is fluffy (low bulk density) one pound of ZeoFiber replaces eight pounds of D.E. After your initial charge of ZeoFiber you may see a shorter cycle (backwashing/recharging) due to the removal of smaller particles to achieve the higher filtration rate. Once your water is stabilized you will see the time between your cycles increase at least two times when compared to D.E. cycles.

Use Less ZeoFiber than D.E.
D.E. requires up to eight times more product (by weight) to achieve a filtration rate comparable to ZeoFiber. The filtering layer formed by the long fibers of ZeoFiber is quite dense and forms quickly into a thin layer. D.E. on the other hand, has irregularly sized particles that must form into a thick layer to provide an adequate filtration screen.

Biodegradable, Environmentally Safe
ZeoFiber is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and biodegradable. Since the ZeoFiber cellulose fibers are derived from trees, ZeoFiber is a renewable resource. ZeoFiber dos not contain silica and is safe in the environment.

With the extended time between cycles you will have fewer backwashes, using less water chemicals, filter media and spend less time maintaining your pool or spa.

Application / Installation

ZeoFiber FAQs / Tips

What is ZeoFiber®?
ZeoFiber is a blend of natural cellulose fibers or "wood fibers".

How much ZeoFiber does my filter require?
Your diatomaceous earth (D.E.) filter requires 6 cups of ZeoFiber for every 24 square feet of filter capacity. For more information see ZeoFiber Installation and Usage.

How is ZeoFiber applied?
ZeoFiber is added directly to your skimmer. (Pre-mixing with water is not necessary.)

How long does ZeoFiber last?
Upon initial installation you may see a shortened cycle (backwashing/recharging) due to the removal of smaller particles. Once the pool has stabilized you will see an increase in your cycle time when compared to D.E.

Can ZeoFiber be used to help my sand or cartridge filter?
ZeoFiber can be used in both sand and cartridge filters as a filter aid.

How does ZeoFiber extend my backwashing cycles?
ZeoFiber's long cellulose fibers crosslink to form a web that has greater filtering capacity than D.E.

Tip 1: Shortened Cycling* with New Installations

  • ZeoFiber filters smaller particles than D.E., causing the filter pressure to rise more quickly than usual for one or two cycles. During these cycles your filter is cleaning the small particles missed by D.E.
  • After the initial one or two cycles your filter's cycle time will be increased versus D.E.
    * Backwashing + recharging= cycle

Tip 2: Chemical Compatibility

  • ZeoFiber has no known compatibility issues

Tip 3: Oil Contamination

  • Oils from high-bather loads may cause ZeoFiber to initially load up quicker. This is because D.E. does not filter all oils.
  • In most residential pools and spas, this will not occur due to lower-bather loads.

Tip 4: Short Cycling of Filter

  • Initial short cycling of the filter is only a sign that ZeoFiber is collecting impurities from the water that were not captured by the previous filter media.
  • If short cycling persists, the water chemistry should be checked.

Tip 5: Environmentally Safe

  • ZeoFiber is all-natural cellulose fiber (wood pulp).
  • ZeoFiber is non-toxic and biodegradable.

Tip 1: Shortened Cycling* with New Installations

  • ZeoFiber will also maximize your cartridge and sand filters' filtration rates. (Not necessary if already using ZeoSand in filter.)
  • Filter pressure may increase or cycle more quickly than usual due to ZeoFiber's increased rate of filtration.
  • Follow manufacturers' instructions for cleaning and backwashing filters
